Skymark Airlines Inc. (スカイマーク株式会社 Sukaimāku Kabushiki-gaisha?) is an airline headquartered in Ōta, Tokyo, Japan.[1] It operates scheduled passenger services on Japan's regional routes and international charter flights to Seoul. Its main base is Tokyo International Airport (Haneda).

It plans to develop Kobe Airport into a regional hub by 2014, aiming to fly routes from Kobe to Sapporo, Sendai, Matsuyama, Fukuoka, Kumamoto, and Naha. [2]

The airline was established in 1996 and started operations on 19 September 1998, as an open sky domestic airline following deregulation. The major shareholders are Shinichi Nishikubo (35.47%), President of the company, and H.I.S. (27.62%). It has 821 employees.

Skymark Airlines operates the following scheduled routes:

Skymark has also announced that it plans to begin service at Chubu Centrair International Airport, serving Nagoya, during the 2008 fiscal year.[3] The plan is now postponed due to the expensive fuel price. [4]

Terminated destinations include Aomori, Kagoshima, Osaka (Itami), Osaka (Kansai) and Tokushima.

The Skymark Airlines fleet consists of the following active aircraft (as of September 2009) [5] :

The average age of Skymark Airlines fleet is 2.7 years as of September 2009.

Skymark is purchasing more 737 aircraft to replace its 767 fleet by 2010. By the time the last 767s are retired, the airline plans to have a fleet of at least 11 737s. The first two 737s will be used on Skymark's Kobe flights starting in 2006. It already took delivery of 10 B737-800s and still operates 1 B767-300ER which are to leave the fleet by 2010.
