Sister, Sister is an American television sitcom about identical twin girls (Tia and Tamera Mowry), separated and adopted at birth, who one day come face-to-face after 14 years apart. The series premiered during the 1993-94 season on ABC, was briefly canceled after the 1994-95 season; but The WB renewed the show for the 1995-96 season, continuing until May 23, 1999. Sister, Sister was a de Passe Entertainment Productions presentation and was produced in association with Paramount Television. Sister, Sister was a member of The WB's primetime line-up of The Parent 'Hood, The Wayans Bros. and others. The show stars twin sisters Tia and Tamera Mowry, Jackee Harry, Marques Houston and Tim Reid.
[edit] PremiseIn the pilot, the twins are reunited during a chance encounter shopping at the mall with their adoptive parents. The premise is similar to the movie The Parent Trap, where a pair of separated-at-birth twins has a chance encounter at summer camp. Tia Landry is the intelligent twin from inner-city Detroit, where her mother Lisa works as a seamstress; Tamera Campbell is the boy-crazy twin from the suburbs, where her father Ray owns a limousine service. After their unexpected encounter in the department store, Ray reluctantly allows Tia and Lisa to move in the house because they are going to move. The girls' neighbor is Roger Evans, an annoying teenager who is infatuated with both of them, and who evolves from a nerdy pest to a handsome gentleman. In the final season when the girls go off to college, Roger disappears from the series without any explanation. In the sixth season episode Father's Day, the twins meet their biological father and learn he was white. He never married their mother because interracial marriage was very controversial at the time, and in his job as a photographer he traveled a lot. When the girls' mother died, he was not allowed to see them because he couldn't prove he was their father. When he searched for twins, he never found them because they had been separately adopted. [edit] Theme SongThe series' theme song was written and composed by Tim Heintz, Randy Petersen and Kevin Quinn. Three versions of the original theme song were used from April 1994 to May 1997. A new version of the show's theme was used starting in Season 5, composed by Heintz, Petersen, Quinn and Kurt Farquhar, who composed the music for the series, save for Season 3, when the music was composed by Paul A. Kreiling, and performed by Tia and Tamera Mowry. Overall, there were six different versions of the intro. The only time the intro remained the exact same was between Seasons 3 and 4, which is when the girls got their new look as well, making the intro outdated for season 4. A video has been uploaded onto Youtube displaying the three major different introductions to the show.[1] [edit] SyndicationOn June 11, 2007, the show began airing on ABC Family.[2] The series replaced Step by Step, but was knocked off two weeks later then returned in the early morning. In August 2009, Gospel Music Channel began airing the television series. The series has also aired on BET since July 2009, airing at 11:00AM/ET on Sundays, and at 11:00AM and 4:00PM/ET on weekdays. The show aired on WGN America from September 11, 2007 until May 2009. The Disney Channel aired edited versions of the series from September 9, 2002 until May 28, 2007.[3] The edited Disney Channel versions are the syndication package of the show that airs on sister network ABC Family, with the exception of a few episodes that were omitted from Disney Channel airings; whereas the airings on WGN America and BET were the original syndicated prints. The Cable networks that are airing the reruns of the series in the U.S. have imposed restrictions to not allow any broadcast television networks from purchasing the rights to air the reruns again. In the UK, Sister, Sister was aired on Nickelodeon, and on Channel 4 between 1995 and 2000 as the channel had the terrestrial rights to the show. Currently, it airs on Nickelodeon on Sky and Virgin Media at 8pm, every night. It also airs on RTÉ Two's The Den in Ireland at 11:30am on Saturdays. In Brazil, Sister, Sister already aired on Nickelodeon, and on October 21, 2009 it debuted on open television Rede Record, but was taken off on October 30, 2009, the cause for this is unknown.
