Coins and notes of Singapore

The Singapore mint was founded in 1968, after the independence of Singapore from Malaysia.^[1] It is a government company responsible for making the currency of Singapore and keeping it from being counterfeited. It has outlets in Orchard Road, where they sell special numbered banknotes and coins. The Singapore mint also runs a coin gallery, open free to the public.^[2] The mint collected S$5 million in 2009 when it organised a coin-note exchange, twice the amount of previous years, possibly due to the economic downturn.^[3]
