Shemaroo Entertainment, officially known as Shemaroo Video Pvt. Ltd., is an Indian company and distributor of Indian films. Founded in 1962, Shemaroo has worked in books, films, and television.^[1] Ghatothkach is the company's second animated film, which they co-produced with Sun Animatics.^[2]

Acquiring and distributing various rights for use on cable, satellite, internet and home video over the years, Shemaroo has now evolved and emerged as a source of broadcast content for entertainment. In Sony Entertainment Television, Shemaroo is a joint venture partner with Sony Pictures Entertainment, USA. The Home Video Division with a catalogue of more than 1000 titles includes several hit films and some of the best names in the industry like Raj Kapoor (RK Films), Subhash Ghai, Bimal Roy, B.R. Chopra, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Dev Anand among others. We also have a full-fledged anti-piracy team that spearheads raids and enforces the laws against piracy.

We made a direct foray into film-making with its films division. ‘Omkara’, under Shemaroo’s banner, was a success. Other recent ventures include ‘Manorama Six Feet Under’ and 3D animated film ‘Bal Ganesh’. ‘Maaza Navra Tuzi Baiko’ was Shemaroo’s first film in the regional category which was the highest grosser movie in Marathi Cinema for the year 2006.

Shemaroo has taken Bollywood Films across the globe to Hindi Film fans all over the world. The demand for Shemaroo products has been not only in the US, U.K., Singapore, Fiji, UAE and Australian markets but newly developed markets like East European & North African markets as well.

Today, Shemaroo is an integrated Film Production, Post Production, Distribution and Animation player. Broadband, Internet, IPTV, Mobile and other emerging technologies are an extension of distribution platforms.

History & Background: In 1962 Shemaroo pioneered Bombay's first circulating Book Library. ‘Shemaroo Book Library’ and its extension for children ‘Shemaroo Kidz’ became popular, and around 1978-79 we set up India's first Video Library in Bombay. Further in 1986-87, we diversified into the acquisition of Video rights.
