Shaun Michael Cody (born January 22, 1983 in Whittier, California) is an American football defensive tackle for the Houston Texans of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He played college football at Southern California.
[edit] Early yearsCody attended Los Altos High School in Hacienda Heights. Cody also garnered USA Today All-USA Defensive MVP. He played in the first ever U.S. Army All-American Bowl game on December 30, 2000. [edit] College careerCody was a First-team All-American for the USC Trojans. As a senior he had a career-high 45 tackles (29 solo), 10 sacks, 13 stops for losses, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and three pass deflections. He was team captain and voted PAC-10 co-Defensive Player of the Year. He was the first Trojan since Chris Claiborne in 1998 to garner Pac-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors. Cody started for his third season as a junior defensive tackle in 2003, starting all 13 games, he had 26 tackles, including 10.5 for losses (with 6 sacks), plus a forced fumble, a deflection and 3 blocked field goals. He was named to the 2003 Third-team AP All-American and the First-team All-Pac-10. As just a sophomore in 2002, Cody started for his second season at defensive while starting USC's first 6 games, he had 20 tackles, including 1 for a loss of 1 yard, a deflection, fumble recovery and blocked field goal. In 2001 he was a backup defensive lineman for USC's first 4 games, he started the last 8 at tackle. He was a consensus First-team Freshman All-America selection, Overall in 2001 while appearing in all 12 games, he had 39 tackles, including 7 for losses (with 5 sacks), and 1 fumble recovery. [edit] Professional career[edit] Detroit LionsCody was selected with the fifth pick of the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of the University of Southern California. He played four seasons for the Lions, recording 91 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one interceptions in 53 games, before becoming a free agent following the 2008 season. [edit] Houston TexansAn unrestricted free agent in the 2009 offseason, Cody agreed to terms on a three-year contract with the Houston Texans on March 23, 2009[1].
