He is perhaps best known for his roles on the television series ER^[1] and Once and Again^[2] and in the film A Walk to Remember.^[3] He is currently acting, performing with The Germs and living in Los Angeles.^[4]

Besides his acting career works as singer and band leader of the punk rock band Jonny Was' ^[5]

West was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Don Snaith (a drugstore owner who was born in Jamaica) and Catherine, both of whom were musicians; he has a younger sister, Simone, and a much younger half-sister, Marli Ann. His parents divorced and at the age of 10, West moved to California with his mother.^[6]

West won the Young Hollywood Award Male Superstar of Tomorrow in 2002. West also won a teen choice award for choice chemistry with Mandy Moore.
