[edit] Personal life

His sisters, twins Keavy and Edele Lynch, found fame as members of the girl group B*Witched; and another sister, Naomi, was part of the duo Buffalo G, who achieved a top 20 hit.

On 8 March 1998, he married Easther Bennett – a vocalist with the girl group, Eternal. They separated in July 2000. He announced on Loose Women on 16 April 2007 that he was engaged to girlfriend Sheena White. They got married in Ireland on 22 August 2007. Sheena gave birth to a baby girl called Billie Rae Lynch weighing 7lb on 25 October 2008.

Lynch was a mechanic before he joined Boyzone.

He is a fan of the Georgetown Hoyas and collects Hoya memorabilia. Lynch is also a fan of the hooped style earring, which he sported throughout his career with Boyzone. He also used to sport a peroxide blonde streak in his early days with the band.

[edit] Boyzone

Boyzone was put together in 1993 by Louis Walsh who is also known for managing Johnny Logan and Westlife. Before even recording any material they made a now infamous appearance on RTÉ's The Late Late Show. Lynch appeared on this programme with five other teenage boys, quite underdressed. Sporting nothing but blue denim dungarees, he revealed a bare chest underneath. Keith Duffy wore just red suspenders and trousers, revealing a buff body underneath.

For seven years after their split in 2000 the members of Boyzone had mixed success in their individual careers. Keating in particular remained a force in the music industry as he continued writing and managing other bands. Gately also continued his career as a solo artist, appearing in a number of West End stage musicals, and Duffy had some success as an actor (including a role in the TV soap Coronation Street).

In 2003 rumours of a Boyzone reunion began to circulate. On 11 October 2007, Louis Walsh was interviewed on The Graham Norton Show; when asked by Graham Norton whether there was going to be a re-launch of Boyzone he replied "I think so". On 14 November 2007, it was reported that all five members of Boyzone were to begin a UK tour in May, which would be their first in seven years. Ronan Keating, who left the Irish boy band to pursue a solo career, joined the group for the series of concerts.

On 16 November, Boyzone made a comeback appearance as part of Children In Need on BBC1 in the UK, with an Irish and UK tour announced for June 2008.[7] The group sold 200,000 tickets for the tour within three hours and sold 20,000 tickets on the first day of them going on sale for their concert in the RDS Dublin. Ronan Keating told the Daily Star: "We've been taking it easy on the Guinness and been out for dinners and just a couple of drinks. We're taking the tour plans very seriously. We're all on diets and we've been training in the gym every day. I'm probably the fittest now that I've ever been. I think we all look better now than before..."

In May 2008, a photograph of the boys was published in various papers and on the internet. In the image, the boys are all completely naked; with each of them holding a top hat in front of their genitals. Labelled "Boyzone In The Buff", the singers all look extremely fit and all sport six packs and buff chests.

On 10 October 2009, Stephen Gately died at the age of 33 while on holiday in Majorca with his civil partner Andrew Cowles.

[edit] Acting credits

Lynch has become an actor in recent years and has played Eli Knox the chairman of Harchester United in the Sky One football soap opera, Dream Team.

Lynch participates in pantomimes, and starred in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Wycombe Swan in High Wycombe, during the 2004 and 2005 Christmas seasons. In 2006, he starred in Cinderella at the Tameside Hippodrome as Prince Charming alongside Sue Jenkins as the evil stepmother Baroness.

[edit] Racing history

Lynch, a motor racing enthusiast even as child, won the Portuguese BMX Championship as a boy. The Lynch family owned a villa in Portugal where they would spend two months of the summer.

He raced a Marcos, TVR and then Mosler from 2002 to 2006 for the Eclipse Motorsport team in the British GT Championship, and came within a few laps of winning the 2003 championship at the last race of the season at Brands Hatch when he crashed into a spinning backmarker he was lapping. Within that instant the title hopes were over.

In 2005 he was involved with the 'Christians In Motorsport' team and competed in the British GT Championship Silverstone round. Lynch addressed a crowd of race fans at the team marquee about how his faith helps him in racing and in life generally[1] Lynch is now involved in drifting in The British Drift Championship[2] and EDC series[3] He was involved in an accident with teammate Danny Eyles while drifting at Silverstone and, although he was not hurt at all, the car was written off.[4] He became a born again Christian after being involved in a motor sports accident.[citation needed] Shane returned to drifting in 2009, with a brand new purpose built Nissan Silvia S15 drift car.

[edit] Reality television

Lynch has taken part in two British celebrity reality television series. He was in the second series of the Channel 4 reality television show, The Games 2004, and received a gold medal. Lynch was also in the second series of ITVs Love Island, he left after the fifth week. Lynch competed in the second series of Sky One's Cirque De Celebrite in autumn 2007.

[edit] Music

In 2000, Lynch teamed with bandmate Keith Duffy and released a cover version of the Milli Vanilli song, "Girl You Know It's True". They re-wrote the verses in which the original was critical of today's music. The chorus was kept the same.

In early 2008, Lynch released the song "Don't Go" which was originally a 1988 hit for the band Hothouse Flowers.
