Server Fault is a website featuring questions and answers in the field of system administration, designed for use by system administrators and IT professionals.[2] The website features the ability for users to ask and answer questions, and, through membership and active participation, to vote questions and answers up or down and edit questions and answers in a wiki fashion. Users of Server Fault can earn reputation points and "badges"; for example, a person is awarded 10 reputation points for receiving an "up" vote on an answer given to a question, and can receive badges for their valued contributions.[3] Based on tags assigned to the questions, the most common topics on the site are Linux, Windows, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, security, networking, SQL Server, Apache, Ubuntu and backups.[4]
[edit] HistoryThe website was launched in April 2009 as a sister site to Stack Overflow. The site initially went into a private beta, but invited users were told to invite other, trained sysadmins to participate in the beta.[5] The site went into open beta in May 2009, with registration becoming open. [edit] TechnologyServer Fault uses the same technology as Stack Overflow.[6] The site also makes use of OpenID, instead of a proprietary login. [edit] References
