[edit] Teams

There are currently twelve team in the 2010 Serie B.

[edit] Format

The Campeonato Ecuatoriano de Fútbol de la Serie B (known as Copa Credife Serie B due to sponsorship reasons, and formerly as the Copa Pilsener Serie B) is the second most important football competition in Ecuador. It has been held yearly since its creation in 1971 (except 1973 & 1983-1988), often holding two tournaments a year. The top team at the end of the tournament are not called champions, but rather winners. It is the only tournament in which Serie B clubs take part. While the format changes slightly every year, the teams usually play in two double round-robin stages (etapas), with a Liguilla Final at the end of the season to crown the winners.

[edit] Promotion & relegation

The top teams at the end of the Liguilla Final are promoted to Serie A, while the bottom teams of Serie A are relegate to Serie B. The team(s) who finish last in Serie B are relegated to Segunda Categoría, while the winners of the Segunda Categoría are promoted to Serie B.
