Classification and external resources
eMedicine derm/

Sebaceous carcinoma is an aggressive, uncommon, cutaneous tumor,[1] it is usually of 10 mm size.[2] This tumor is thought to arise from sebaceous glands in the skin, thus, it may arise anywhere in the body where these glands exist, knowing that the periocular region is rich in this type of gland, so this tumor commonly arise in this region.[3][4] It is usually of unknown etiology, but it may be associated with Muir-Torre syndrome.[5][6]

This tumor usually has a bad prognosis, that is because it tends to metastasize.[2]

[edit] Pathophysiology

The cell of origin is usually not known. Sebaceous gland carcinoma clearly resembles normal sebaceous glands and is thought to arise from them.[1][2]

[edit] Treatment

Sebaceous gland tumor is commonly managed by innovative techniques of local resection, cryotherapy, topical chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, giving results of improved visual and systemic prognosis.[3]

Mohs micrographic surgery has a significantly lower recurrence rate and metastatic rate, and excellent results when used as the primary treatment modality for sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid, it became the teatment of choice for this kind of tumor.[7][4]
