Seba Beach is a Summer village located 85 km (53 mi) west of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. The main employer to those within the village and surrounding area is the Sundance Generating Plant, a coal-fired power plant located on the south side of the lake, owned and operated by TransAlta Utilities.

A large cabin-going community exists during the summer, although the village is populated year round. Local sites include Wabamun Lake, the village marina and pier, several restaurants including Smoky's Grill [1], Derby's General Store, a public library, Trickle Creek MiniGolf [2], Pineridge Golf Resort [3] and several RV parks including Kokanee Springs RV Park [4].

August long weekend is the annual Regatta at Seba Beach, which features a parade, dance, foot races, fireworks, beach volleyball tournament, and cribbage tournament, among other events. During the summer and fall, there is a weekly farmers market on Saturdays.

The lake itself has a large population of Northern Pike along with whitefishand Yellow Perch.

The main sailing club of the Seba Beach is Edmonton Yacht Club, and is located at 1st Avenue and 2nd Street West within Seba Beach.

[edit] Oil spill

On August 3, 2005, 45 cars of a CN Rail train derailed on the shores of Wabamun Lake, near Wabamun, 14 miles (23 km) east of the village, spilling their contents of more than 700,000 litres (154,000 Imp gal) of a variety of fuel oils and pole treating oils into the lake. Much effort has been made to reverse the environmental effects of the spill. It is expected that there will be no adverse long term effects resulting from this spill.

[edit] Demographics

In 2006, Seba Beach had a population of 203 living in 224 dwellings, a 86.2% increase from 2001. The summer village has a land area of 0.66 km2 (0.3 sq mi) and a population density of 305.6 /km2 (791.5/sq mi).[1]
