[edit] Career

Originally from Bendigo, Victoria, where he attended Catholic College Bendigo, Selwood was recruited from the Bendigo Pioneers with the West Coast Eagles' fourth pick and number 22 overall in the 2007 AFL Draft. He made his debut against Fremantle in the Round 3 Western Derby in 2008. He was retained in the team for the Round 4 match against the Sydney Swans, but was dropped after a poor performance, obtaining only nine possessions.

Selwood returned to the senior side in Round 16, three months after his previous game, against the Brisbane Lions at the expense of veteran Michael Braun. Although a poor performance, amassing a six possessions, he was retained for the unexpected win against St Kilda. This time he gave a greater output, gaining a career high 15 possessions and also scoring his first goal. Selwood is currently trying to have a regular place in the senior side.

Over his first four games, Selwood has averaged 11 possessions per game. In the 2011 football season he has averaged 19 disposals, and 8.4 tackles per game (the fourth highest tackle per game average in the AFL), for a total of 67, the third highest total in the AFL. Selwood finished the 2011 regular season with the highest amount of tackles made of any player for the season.

In his first four games of the 2012 season he has made massive contributions, averaging 30.7 disposals, 8 marks, 4.3 tackles and 1.3 goals, as well as the 8th highest average supercoach score in the league

[edit] Personal life

Selwood has three elder brothers who are also footballers, the twins Adam (who also plays for West Coast) and Troy (who previously played for Brisbane) and Joel, who plays for Geelong. In June 2007, the Selwood brothers and their parents, Maree and Bryce, were named AFL celebrity ambassadors for Seeing Eye Dogs Australia.[1]
