Sarah Phelps is a British television, radio, film and freelance playwright who was working for the Royal Shakespeare Company when she took part in a BBC initiative to find new writers. She then wrote for the World Service Soap opera Westway before joining the BBC1 soap opera EastEnders in 2002.

Phelps has written over 50 episodes of EastEnders, including both the 'Return of Den Watts' and his final demise, less than two years later, when he was killed by his wife, Chrisse. A journalist for the British tabloid, The Daily Mirror, described her as 'Enders best writer'.

She has also written over 40 episodes of Westway which won RIMA'S Best Soap Award Commission For Racial Equality's Race In The Media Awards.

Her radio work also includes Vital Signs II, Cardamom, The Collected Works of Billy the Kid and The Compass Rose: A Tattoo Lexicon.

Her theatre projects include Tube, Angela Carter, The Subtle Art of Boiling Lobsters, Amaretti Angels and Modern Dance for Beginners.
