Sandia High School (SHS) is a Public High School located in the northeast heights of Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is a member of the Albuquerque Public Schools district. The school opened in 1957. The originally proposed mascot name was Sandia Satan, which prompted negative reactions from the surrounding community. Thereafter, the name was changed to Matador. A matador sculpture was placed in the student commons area in 1961.

In the late 1970s, the school reached a record student population for the state of New Mexico. This led to the approval and construction of a newer facility, La Cueva High School, in the early 1980s.

In 2006, due to heavy flooding in the high desert environment of Albuquerque, the basement-level gymnasium of Sandia required extensive repair work. However it has been fully repaired, and is open for use to the students and staff.

Sandia High School has a very strong Mock Trial team led by Sandia teacher Cramer Johnson. In 2007 the Sandia Mock Trial A team took first place at both Regionals and State while also gaining many individual awards. The team then went on to Nationals where they took 9th place, the highest a New Mexico team has ever placed. In 2008 they again took first at both Regionals and State, once again gaining many individual awards. When the team went to Nationals in 2008 they beat their previous 9th place record, placing 4th in the Nation. At the 2008 National Mock Trial Competition on the team's Attorneys also got an award for being one of the top attorneys at the competition! The Sandia Mock Trial team is the highest-placing team in the National Mock Trial Competition out of all New Mexico Mock Trial teams.

Additionally, Sandia High School's science fair program resulted in a team of two students as cooperative finalists in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair during 2009, as well as a semi-finalist.

Sandia High School is also known for its drama and choir programs.
