Samuel "Screech" Powers is a fictional character from the sitcoms Good Morning, Miss Bliss, Saved by the Bell, Saved by the Bell: The College Years and Saved by the Bell: The New Class. He was portrayed by Dustin Diamond and was one of only two characters to remain from the beginning of the franchise until the end.

Screech is seen as the geek of his peer group. However, he is often recognized for his academic abilities.

Screech is much like he is in all of his other incarnations, only younger. He mentions he has a brother in one episode but as with most of Good Morning, Miss Bliss, this was written out of all subsequent continuity.

During his years at Bayside High, Screech frequently pursues fellow classmate Lisa Turtle and is frequently turned down by her. However, she does agree to date him in one episode, only to spoil the date by talking through the movie.

Screech's circle of friends contains Lisa, Zack Morris, Jessie Spano, Kelly Kapowski and the newly-arrived A.C. Slater.

Screech does eventually end up with a girlfriend, Violet Bickerstaff (played by the then unknown Tori Spelling) and dates her for several episodes. Violet is then never seen again, without any explanation.

Screech is frequently roped into scams by his best friend, Zack. As a running gag, he often unwittingly sabotages them.

In spite of all his faults, Screech is well liked by his friends.

Upon graduating, Screech and his friends Zack, Slater and Kelly attend California University. Screech remains there until his sophomore year where he begins a work-study programme at his alma mater, Bayside High, alongside Principal Richard Belding.

In what is considered to be the definite end of the original Saved by The Bell, Screech attends Zack and Kelly's wedding. This is mentioned in an episode of the New Class, which aired around the time of the Movie's release.

From Season 2, Screech is initially in the role as Belding's administrative assistant for a year as part of a work-study programme. Screech retains the same bumbling tendencies he did as a teenager, often irritating Belding. However, Screech remains at Bayside in this capacity until the end of the series.

Everton F.C. footballer Marouane Fellaini, has been nicknamed "Screech" by his teammates and fans alike due to his afro, which makes him resemble his Saved By The Bell namesake.
