Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadium (Turkish: Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadyumu) is a multi-purpose stadium in Samsun, Turkey. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Samsunspor, currently playing in the Turk Telekom League A. The stadium holds 13,500 people (all-seater) (currently under renovation, see below). The stadium was named after the date May 19, 1919 when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk set foot on land in Samsun to start the national independence movement. [edit] RenovationIn 2006, the Black Sea club decided to renovate the ground, and plans were released to increase the capacity by several thousand by adding a second tier to the "marathon side", as well as covering all the seats with a roof. Currently, the upgrades are being made and the all-covered, all-seated stadium will have a capacity of 19,000.[1] [edit] References[edit] External linksCoordinates: 41°16′12.05″N 36°21′22.04″E / 41.2700139°N 36.3561222°E
