The Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville, California Metropolitan Statistical Area, also known as the Sacramento metropolitan area or Greater Sacramento, is an area consisting of four counties in California's Central Valley, and El Dorado foothills, anchored by the city of Sacramento. As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 1,796,857 (though a July 1, 2007 estimate placed the population at 2,091,120).[1]

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,796,857 people, 665,298 households, and 445,753 families residing within the MSA. The racial makeup of the MSA was 69.99% White, 7.13% African American, 1.06% Native American, 9.02% Asian, 0.47% Pacific Islander, 7.16% from other races, and 5.17% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 15.48% of the population.

The median income for a household in the MSA was $48,401, and the median income for a family was $57,112. Males had a median income of $43,572 versus $31,889 for females. The per capita income for the MSA was $23,508.

The Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Yuba City Combined Statistical Area is made up of eight counties, seven in the Central Valley region of California and one in Nevada. The statistical area includes two metropolitan area and two micropolitan areas. As of the 2000 Census, the CSA had a population of 1,930,149 (though a July 1, 2007 estimate placed the population at 2,397,691).[3]
