Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Technology, Vasad more commonly referred to as SVIT, is a private technical institute located in the bank of Mahi River, Gujarat, India. It is Offering undergraduate and graduate level technical education. It is one of the best engineering college in Gujarat. SVIT held many annual events like Prakarsh (National Technical Festival), Annual Day, Sports Week, Welcome and Farewell Party.
[edit] HistorySVIT (Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Technology) was established in 1997 with the ideals of Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the iron man of India. The New English School Trust (NEST), Vasad constituted the Board of Management of SVIT under the Chairmanship of an able and experienced educationist and administrator of Gujarat, Prof. Shantibhai M Amin. This Board established in 1997 a national level Institute in the field of Engineering and Technology as per the guidelines of AICTE at Vasad on the bank of the Mahi River and touching the National Highway No. 8 in the district of Anand, Gujarat in a peaceful and pollution free environment in one of the richest agro-industrial zones of the western region of the country. Currently, SVIT is managed by New English School Trust (NEST). It is approved by AICTE, DTE (Government of Gujarat) and affiliated to Gujarat University. Though SVIT is approved by the AICTE, the website of AICTE mentions only three of its courses as approved by it, namely Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering. ,[1] Now from 2004-05 all courses viz. Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering,Civil Engineering,Computer Engineering,Information Technology,Electronics & Comm Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engg, Aeronautical Engineering, and Mca are approved by AICTE. [edit] FoundationProfessor Shantibhai Amin and Shiva Kaka, both classmates of College of Engineering, Pune along with Mr. Chandubhai Patel, a leading businessman in town decided to establish SVIT with the help of local people. The main objective behind this was to fill the gap between the institutes situated in Baroda and Anand i.e. Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and Sardar Patel University. SVIT houses an Aeronautical Engineering division as well, the only one in the State of Gujarat, with an intake of 60 students. [edit] GeographySVIT, Vasad is located at 22°27′00″N 73°04′00″E / 22.4500°N 73.0667°E.[2] It has an average elevation of 18 metres (62 feet), which is on the banks of river Mahi River at Vasad, in a pollution free environment 20 km from Vadodara, 18 km from Vallabh Vidhyanagar and 90 km from Ahmedabad. The climate is mostly dry and temperature is mostly between 30˚ to 40˚ in summer and 10˚ to 25˚ in winter. It is around 50 km away from Gulf of Cambay and Arabian Sea. It is surrounded by the fertile Charotar region which largely produces tobacco, bananas, cotton, barley and other agricultural crops. [edit] InfrastructureSVIT comprises 26 acres (110,000 m2) of land on which the institute buildings are constructed with the plinth area of 232608 (Carpet area 193840) sq ft. Sufficient land is available for further development. Playgrounds for outdoor and indoor games facilities have been developed. Land for 25 feet (7.6 m) wide approach road, joining the national highway to the institute, has been purchased and developed by the management. SVIT has many other facilities like Administration (G.F-ADM & Drawing Hall, F.F-Library, S.F-Ament. & Drawing Hall), Cafeteria, Remote Sensing (Civil Dept.), Power Sub Station, Stationary Shop, Transport Cell, Pump Room, NesCafe CoffeeShop. [edit] Education EnvironmentA diverse and well qualified faculty drawn academic institutions and industrial houses of high repute, many of the teaching staff are Ph.D and post graduates from reputed institutions including the IIT's. It has houses engineering branches namely Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Instrumentation and Control and Master of Computer Applications. It also has Architecture as a branch, which is being run with the name of College of Architecture.
[edit] PeopleSVIT has 2,480 undergraduate students, 180 graduate students, almost 150 full-time faculty, and 10 part-time faculty. The male-to-female student ratio is almost around 2:1. Fees use to change yearly by order of State Fee Committee, which is likely to be revised from the current academic year 2007 – 2008. It is reform every year and responsible from many majoy events like annual day, sports week, welcome and farewell party, and many more.
