[edit] History

SUCCESS was first established in 1891 by Orison Swett Marden as a personal achievement magazine and has since undergone many changes and reinventions. The publication originally made a name for itself as one of the leading sources of information for, and publicizing of, American entrepreneurs. This was helped by the literary contributions of several renowned authors and thought leaders including Napoleon Hill, W. Clement Stone and Og Mandino who led the publication through its early years .[1]

In July 2007 the owners of the magazine ceased publication and laid off its entire staff (excluding publisher Joe Guerriero).

SUCCESS was on its second relaunch and had a subscriber base of 650,000 at the time.

"At the end of the day, the owners just didn't want to continue to invest in a print property the size and scope of Success," Guerriero wrote in an online statement. "[It's] disappointing because we were really making headway."[2]

[edit] Relaunch

The April/May 2008 issue marked the latest relaunch of SUCCESS with the magazine returning to its roots as a publication by and for the entrepreneur, featuring "personal-development thought for leaders, CEOs, entrepreneurs and other achievers who offer practical advice, ideas, tips and training on leadership, goal attainment, time management, selling, motivation and more."[3]

SUCCESS launched as a bi-monthly publication with the April/May issue in 2008 and moved to a monthly schedule in September 2008. As of the January 23, 2008 press release, pre-launch interest in the magazine prompted a rate base increase from 100,000 to 500,000 for the premier issue.[1]

With its nationwide debut on March 4, 2008, the new SUCCESS magazine launched with more than 1 million copies having been pre-sold and more than 50,000 distributed nationally on the newsstand making it one of the largest magazine rollouts in publishing history.[3]
