SKY Latin America is a company that operates a subscription television service in the Mexico, Central America, Dominican Republic and Brazil, and refers to two closely related Pay-TV providers, one headquartered Mexico and the other in Brazil. It produces TV content, and owns several TV channels. It is one of Mexico's leading pay-TV providers and more than half of the equity is owned by the largest Spanish-speaking Television Network Televisa whilst in Brazil, one third of the equity is owned and operated by Globo.

The Mexican company was founded on 25th July 1996, a joint venture between British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB), News Corporation, Liberty Media and Grupo Televisa and was lated launched on 15th December 1996. At the same time it was being set up in Brazil, where it involved BSkyB, News Corporation, Liberty Media and Organizações Globo. By May 2000, the company had extended throughout the rest of Latin America, launching in Central America, Argentina and Colombia but during Argentina's economic crisis, on 10th July 2002, with over 52,000 subscribers, Sky Argentina ceased all operations.^[1]

During the course of the decade, most Sky operations in Latin America were rebranded to DirecTV, with the exception of the Mexican and Brazilian operations, that in 2005 absorbed the DirecTV keeping the Sky name.^[2]

• Sky Brazil is 74% owned by The DirecTV Group and 26% by Organizações Globo.^[3] As of mid-2009, Sky Brazil has 1.8 million subscribers.^[4]
• Sky Mexico is 58.7% owned by Grupo Televisa and 41.3% by The DirecTV Group.^[5] As of mid-2009, Sky Mexico has 1.9 million subscribers.^[6]

In May 2009, Sky Brazil launched its first 10 HDTV channels in 1080i resolution (with the exception of ESPN HD, which broadcasts in 720p. Currently, Sky Brazil has 28 channels in HDTV in total.^[7] Sky Mexico is set to launch over 24 HDTV channels at the beginning of 2010, and is expected to add 16 more in the near future.^[8]
