SAIT Polytechnic, or SAIT (sayt) as it is referred to locally, is a polytechnic undergraduate college located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The acronym SAIT refers to "Southern Alberta Institute of Technology", which was the school's official name prior to 2006.
[edit] ProgramsOffering more than 70 applied degrees, diplomas and certificates, it serves as a polytechnic institution for the city of Calgary and southern Alberta. [edit] AthleticsSAIT joined the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference in 1964 and is represented today in the 6 major sports: basketball, curling, soccer, cross country running, hockey and volleyball. All of SAIT's sports teams share the name Trojans. The Campus Centre contains a bowling alley, salt water pool, weight room, gymnasium, hockey arena and a 341-seat theatre.
SAITSA, (SAIT Students Association), has built a new in-campus coffee house for students which opened prior to the start of the 2008-2009 year.
SAIT runs a full-range bookstore and high-tech computer store in the Heart Building which offers laptops, computers, software and computer accessories, (on both Windows and Apple platforms), to students at discount rates.
The SAIT library located in the Heart Building is a library with a broad range of books, magazines and newspapers to serve the reader. SAIT is also in collaboration with the Alberta government to provide its students online library facilities though which students can use numerous resources and e-books for study or assignment purposes. [edit] Campus location and expansionSAIT Polytechnic is located in the NW division of the city of Calgary within close proximity to downtown Calgary. The main campus is also served by the Crowfoot-Somerset CTrain line with its own dedicated train station (shared by the Alberta College of Art and Design), and many buses. The campus is located on 16th Avenue (the Trans-Canada Highway), and 10th Street. Other campuses include the SAIT Mayland Heights campus (used for carpentry, concrete work and other courses pertaining to construction), which is located on the intersections of Centre Avenue and 19th Street SE, and the Art Smith Aero Centre located in close proximity to the Calgary International Airport, used mainly for aeronautics. The largest student on-campus residence building in Alberta will be completed in late 2008, shortly after the start of the 2008-2009 school year.
