S G Balekundri was an engineer and irrigation expert of Karnataka. He is remembered as the chief engineer and architect of the Alamatti dam project. The Karnataka government has honoured his memory by instituting an award for engineering excellence in his name.^[1] A statue was also erected in 2006 at Alamatti in Balekundri's honour.^[2] A road has also been named after him in the state capital Bengaluru.
