Career highlights

Ryan Hargrave (born 26 July 1981) is a player in the AFL who was drafted with pick 66 in 1999. He is a defender on the field and is quite versatile within the back line. He usually takes the second best opposition forward and usually does a good job restricting him. Hargrave on occasion sneaks forward to kick a few goals. Throughout 2002 he really grew and developed as a defender and has become an essential part of the Western Bulldogs' defence. In the same year Hargrave was nominated for the National AFL Rising Star award. Hargrave also won the Western Bulldogs club Best First Year Player in 2002.

In 2003, Hargrave was fined $67,500 by the tribunal after he punched Heath Black during a melee against the St Kilda Saints. His defence to the incident was "I thought he was going to hit me so I just thought, 'Get in first'".[1]

Hargrave was set to play his 150th game against the Geelong Cats in Round 9, 2009, along side Jason Akermanis' 300th however a late withdrawal due to injury saw this postponed. His father and brother had booked flights from Perth to see Hargrave play this milestone game however due to him not playing, they have missed out on the opportunity. A twist of fate however sees Hargrave's mother attending his 150th game against the Richmond Tigers in Round 11, 2009 after she mistakenly booked the wrong date with intention to see him in Round 9.[2]

Hargrave has yet to poll a single vote in the Brownlow.

Hargrave currently resides in Maidstone, Victoria however he is currently looking to move to out with his girlfriend, Gabby, to Newport, Victoria or Williamstown, Victoria where a lot of the senior Western Bulldogs players live.[3]
