Ryan James "Fitzy" Fitzgerald (born 16 October 1976) is former Australian rules footballer and participant in Big Brother Australia 2004. After being drafted from the South Adelaide Football Club he later became a B-grade celebrity.
[edit] Early lifeFitzgerald attended Wirreanda High School[1] and played junior football for Port Noarlunga.[citation needed] [edit] AFL careerFitzgerald played 10 games for the Australian Football League club, the Sydney Swans in the year 2000. In 2002, he was transferred to the Adelaide Crows but only played 8 games for the Crows before retiring from AFL football due to ACL knee injuries. [edit] Media personality and personal lifeFitzgerald was a contestant in Big Brother Australia 2004, and finished in fourth place at the conclusion of the show. After that he became co-host of the Adelaide Nova 91.9 radio breakfast show and made occasional appearances on Before The Game (AFL). In 2005 he had a new role as a co-host on the new Friday night Big Brother Australia show Friday Night Live with fellow Big Brother 2004 contestant Bree Amer, which became a stand alone show in its own right in 2006 as Friday Night Games. Fitzgerald has since signed on for a number of endorsements, including a billboard advertisement in which he is labelled a b-grade celebrity, a commercial where he is wearing a bear suit and promoting preparation-h, and an anti-smoking ad saying that drugs are "only good from your pharmacist."[citation needed] Alongside Premier Mike Rann, he spoke at the opening of the Rundle Lantern in Adelaide.
