Roy Haggerty was a Rugby League player for St. Helens and Barrow who began his career at centre, before moving into the second row.

His was a popular figure amongst the St. Helens supporters who respected his fitness and commitment to the club.

He is the father of Harlequins RL player, Gareth Haggerty.

One of the popular folklores in St. Helens is that upon hearing of Mal Meninga's arrival for the 1985 season, Haggerty commented "Where's he going to play?!"^{[citation needed]}
