Roxas is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Isabela, Philippines. According to the latest census, it has a population of 53,461 people in 9,896 households.

It is currently one of the fast-growing towns in Isabela. It is the center of business and commerce in the Mallig Region. It is envisioned to be a city in the next few years.

[edit] Transportation

In terms of transportation, Roxas has the most number of bus and jeepney terminals compared to any other town in the region. Bus companies such as Victory Liner., Northern Luzon Bus Corporation (NELBUSCO), AJA Transport, Florida, Royal Eagle and Auto Bus have services bound to other parts of the province, Tarlac, Pampanga, Ilocos, Cagayan, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, and Manila. Transportation within the town is mainly by tricycles, which are basically motorcycles with cabs attached to them. There are also many vans which are used as a means of transportation from Roxas to other parts of the province. Many buses also pass through Roxas because they find it as a highly-economized town where they can get a lot of passengers. Some of these buses are Victory Liner, Ballesteros Bus Line Corporation(BBLC), Dagupan Bus Corporation Incorporated, DALIN, Lizardo Trans(GL), GMW Transportation, Maribel(a sister company of BBLC), Rosalinda, DOLBO Transportation and Agustin Bus.

As of December 2007, Roxas is the most progressive town in Mallig Region. It has the most number of banks - Equitable PCI Bank (BDO), Philippine National Bank, Landbank of the Philippines, Banco Agricola, Inc., Mallig Plains Rural Bank and other non-major banks. It also has two locally famous malls - PowerMall (the first to install an escalator in the region), and GEMS Shopping Center. It also has one radio station named as WIN FM 107.5 "Nagimas sen". Psalms Cable, Inc. is the only cable TV in the whole town which extends its coverage to some of Roxas's neighboring towns - Burgos and San Manuel. It also provides the neighboring towns of Isabela all necessary needs of a human to live. Roxas has a very wide and huge market, so businessmen have their chance to build and earn a lot of money immediately. SM Prime Holdings, the biggest mall operator in the Philippines, will be building its first SM mall in Cagayan Valley. The mall is set to rise on a five hectare lot in Barangay Malvar to be called the SM Megamall Santiago and on Barangay Rang-Ayan, Roxas as SM Metro Roxas.

It is considered as the center of health services in Mallig Region. It has numerous primary, secondary, and tertiary hospitals. Major hospitals include Manuel A. Roxas District Hospital (MARDH), Soller Medical Clinic, Dumlao Hospital, Yumena Medical Center and Dayos Hospital. It also houses some specialization clinics, such as Sambilay Maternity Surgical and Medical Clinic, Purugganan Children's Clinic and Capuccino EENT Clinic. Dental clinics and skin clinics are also available. Moreover, health centers are also available in barangays outside the town proper.

Politics has been one of the local prominent issues. Dr. Harry G. Soller is presently the mayor of Roxas, defeating Benito Calderon who had been the mayor of Roxas for three terms. During the elections, political upheavals concerned the local residents since Dr. Soller won by a margin of just 200 votes. The current representative is Atty. Edwin C. Uy, who is in his third term. He won against Benedict Calderon, the son of Benito Calderon, and was also the incumbent mayor of Roxas that time. Congressman Edwin Uy is rumored to run for governor in 2010.

Public and private schools serve the people of Roxas and other neighboring towns. It has a number of public elementary schools, three public high schools, namely Roxas National High School, Lanting National High School and Munoz National High School,the same through with the Monico Rarama National High School. A Marian institution, La Salette of Roxas, provide the private school education. It has a primary school, a high school, and a college. La Salette of Roxas is considered as the highest standard of Education in the whole town, and likewise the fourth highest standard in the whole Province of Isabela and in the Philippines. Some public elementary schools, Bantug-Lintao Elementary School, San Rafael Elementary School, Roxas West Elementary School(the largest) and Roxas East Elementary School are among the most popular elementary schools in the town. Thera are also Day Care Centers each barangay and Roxas United Methodist Church Kindergarten School and Isabela Christian Learning Center for nursery education. There are four private elementary schools, the Casa Del Niño Montessori School, Marlbury Bush Montessori School, Shalom Learning and La Salette of Roxas-Elementary Department. There are also Colleges and Universities in the town namely University of La Salette(the same with La Salette of Roxas), Mallig Plains Colleges and Isabela State University.


There is a proposal signed on October 16,2009 by the Society of Jesus in the Philippines that a 15 hectares land in Nuesa, Roxas, Isabela will soon rise the newest Ateneo de Roxas University, the first in the Region of Cagayan Valley. The constructtion was proposed to start by 2012.

- It was the hometown of ROGEMAR OGIE MENOR the popular collegiate & university leagues basketball player and formerly he is the only junior player represent RP for the most great teenage player in ASIA when he was in high school level.(MEOJR)

- Roxas was named after the late President Manual A. Roxas

- It celebrates its town day (Roxas Day) on the same day that America commemorates its independence which is every 4th of July.

- Its current mayor is Dr. Harry G. Soller, who owns the Soller Medical Clinic.

- It has its festival popularly known as Pagay Festival, but during the term of Mayor Soller, it was changed to Binnadangan Festival.

- It will soon to be a city by 2010 carrying its new name, "Roxas Metropolis" or "Metropolitan of Roxas".

- It has the largest market in Mallig Region(Roxas, San Manuel, Aurora, Mallig, Quezon, Burgos, and Gamu)

- The Noontime show Wowowee will soon to have it's first time live show at the province and it will be held at Roxas Astrodome or at La Salette of Roxas Open Grounds on May 2010.
