Ron Fletcher Biography: Clara's Letters to Ron ronfletcherwork.com | Ron Hart, DDS - Dr. Ron Hart ronhartdds.com |
Ron Magers is one of the weeknight anchors on WLS-TV, the ABC affiliate in Chicago. He currently co-anchors the station's 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. broadcasts. He is the brother of Paul Magers, a television anchor for KCBS-TV in Los Angeles. Ron joined WLS in 1998 as a 5:00 p.m. anchor. He became co-anchor of the 10:00 p.m. newscasts in 2002, after the retirement of long-time anchor John Drury. Magers also appeared in a feature segment on The Roe Conn Show on WLS (AM). His last day was December 19th, 2009 after an almost twelve year engagement. From 1981 to 1997, Ron co-anchored the highly respected newscasts of WMAQ-TV with Carol Marin. They made national headlines in May 1997 when they left Channel 5 in protest of the station's hiring Jerry Springer as commentator for the 10:00 p.m. newscasts. WMAQ management allowed both anchors an early release from their contracts. Prior to his arrival in Chicago, Magers was a principal anchor for KSTP-TV, Channel 5, the ABC (formerly NBC) affiliate in Minneapolis-St. Paul from 1974 to 1981. He was later joined by co-anchor Cyndy Brucato. This popular anchor team led the top-rated Twin Cities newscasts at that time, an era which has been unparalleled at the station. [edit] External links
