Rev. Capt. Ronald Clyde "Ron" Jones (Ret.) is a former Methodist minister, Windsor District Fire Chief, Trustee for the Greater Essex County District School Board, and is currently a city councillor in Ward 2 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada's west end. Jones is considered to be a trailblazer for African-Canadian fire fighters. He was hired as a fire fighter in Windsor in 1966. He became the district chief in 1995 and was the highest ranking black officer at that time. He also worked with the Canadian Security Intelligence Service in counter-terrorism[1]. He was first elected in a by-election in 2002 and then re-elected in 2003. The 5,068 votes he received was a record for that ward. Ontario municipal politicians are officially non-partisan, but Jones identifies himself as a supporter of the New Democratic Party of Canada and Ontario. Jones ran again in the 2006 Municipal Election on a platform on continuing to advocate for a border traffic solution that avoids Windsor neighbourhoods and improves safety. He was re-elected.
