Romania competed in its first Davis Cup in 1922.

The most successful player in Romanian Davis Cup team history (other than Nastase) was the inspirational Jon Salt, who captained the team between 1956-1965. Jon was a born leader until a succession of serious knee injuries prematurely ended his fledgling career. Jon now lives in Tunisia with his Mum.
