Robbie Rogers (born May 12, 1987 in Rancho Palos Verdes, California) is an American soccer player who currently plays for Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer.
[edit] Career[edit] Youth and CollegeRogers attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, where he was a two-time High School All-American in soccer. He played one season of college soccer at the University of Maryland, helping lead the team to the 2005 NCAA Championship. Rogers also briefly played with Orange County Blue Star of the Premier Development League. [edit] ProfessionalIn August 2006, Rogers signed his first professional contract with Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie. However, Rogers never made a first team appearance for Heerenveen, and he was acquired by the Columbus Crew prior to the beginning of the 2007 Major League Soccer season after they won a Draft Lottery for the player. He was an important part of the Columbus Crew team that won the MLS Supporters Shield and the MLS Cup in 2008, and was also named to the MLS Best XI the same year. [edit] InternationalRogers played over 20 games for the United States U-20 men's national soccer team from 2004 to 2007. He played for his country at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. Peter Nowak, coach of the men's 2008 US Olympic Team, placed Rogers on the roster for the Beijing Games, and Rogers played in all three games for the US. USMNT head coach Bob Bradley called Rogers in for the World Cup Qualifier against Trinidad and Tobago on October 15, but was later replaced by Chris Rolfe due to a back injury. Rogers was then included in the 25-man January camp preceding a friendly against Sweden on January 24, 2009, and made the starting eleven. He was largely invisible that game, and was considered an unfinished product. He was selected for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup for the United States. Rogers impressed in with his performance versus Grenada scoring a goal and adding 2 assists, earning man of the match honors. On October 1, 2009, Bradley called Rogers up to play United States' final two matches for the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification. His crosses to both Landon Donovan and Johnathan Bornstein led to the United States 2 goals in the 2-2 draw with Costa Rica.[1] [edit] International goals
