Rincón de Ademuz is Spanish comarca constituted as an exclave of both the Region of Valencia and the province of Valencia located between the provinces of Cuenca (Castile-La Mancha) and Teruel (Aragon). It is a largely rural and sparsely populated area with seven municipalities of which only its capital, Ademuz, has over 1,000 inhabitants.

The area has the river Turia as its major source of water.

[edit] Modern history

Conquered from the moors by the Christians in 1210, it returned to Islamic hands until reconquered by Jaume I in 1259, who included it with the region in the Kingdom of Valencia.

Its strategic importance in medieval times was remarkable[citation needed]

For most of the twentieth century, cultivation of apple trees was the main economic activity in the region. Some apple varieties are said to be endemic, especially the "esperiega" or "espedriega". Due to large migration, which saw thousands of inhabitants move to major cities such as Valencia or Barcelona, agriculture declined and has almost been abandoned today.
