[edit] Playing career

Petiot was drafted 166th overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. Petiot was drafted from the Camrose Kodiaks of the AJHL before playing four years of collegiate hockey with Colorado College. Petiot signed a two-year contract with the Kings after his senior year with the Tigers on August 11, 2005.[1]

Richard made his professional debut in the 2005–06 season, playing mostly with Kings affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, of the AHL. Petiot spent the next two injury-hit seasons with the Monarchs before signing as a free agent for the Toronto Maple Leafs on July 15, 2008.[2]

In the 2008–09 season, Petiot was assigned to the Maple Leafs affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, before he was dealt by Toronto to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Olaf Kolzig, Andy Rogers, Jamie Heward and a fourth round selection on March 4, 2009. On July 9, 2009 he was signed as a free agent to the Chicago Blackhawks.[3]
