Richard Bartel (born February 3, 1983 in Grapevine, Texas) is an American football quarterback for the Washington Redskins of the National Football League. He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He played college football at Tarleton State.
[edit] Early yearsBartel attended Grapevine High School in Grapevine, Texas and was a student and a letterman in football and baseball. In football, he was named the District Offensive Player of the Year, was an All-Region selection, and named as an All-State selection. Richard Bartel graduated from Grapevine High School in 2001. Richard is married to Alecia Bartel. [edit] Baseball careerBartel was drafted as a pitcher by the Cincinnati Reds in the 14th round (516th overall) of the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft. He appeared in one game for the Gulf Coast Reds in 2001 and pitched a shutout inning. The following season for the GCL Reds, Bartel allowed 19 hits, eight runs (five earned) and four walks with nine strikeouts in 14.1 innings. He finished his career with a 1-1 record and a 2.98 earned run average in eight games. [edit] College careerBartel attended and played for Southern Methodist University in 2003 then transferred to Tarleton State University for his final two seasons of collegiate football. [edit] Professional career[edit] Dallas CowboysBartel was invited to participate in the Dallas Cowboys' mini-camp prior the 2007 National Football League season. He was released by the Cowboys during final cuts on August 30, 2008. [edit] Cleveland BrownsBartel was signed to the practice squad of the Cleveland Browns on November 26, 2008 after quarterback Brady Quinn was placed on injured reserve. Bartel was activated from the practice squad on December 24, 2008, when Ken Dorsey was placed on injured reserve. Bartel was waived by the Browns on September 5, 2009. [edit] Jacksonville JaguarsBartel was signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad on September 7. [edit] Washington RedskinsBartel was signed off the Jaguars practice squad by the Washington Redskins on November 25.
