Richard Joseph Coady, IV (born January 26, 1976 in Dallas, Texas) is a former American football safety who played in the National Football League. His father Richard Coady played in the NFL for the Chicago Bears.
[edit] High school yearsCoady attended J. J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Texas and was a student and a letterman in football and basketball. In football, as a senior, he was named his team's Most Valuable Player and was an All-District selection and an All-Metroplex selection. [edit] CollegeCoady attended Texas A&M University, where he was a three-year starter for the Aggies and an integral part of the their 1998 Big 12 Conference championship team. [edit] NFLCoady was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the 3rd round of the 1999 NFL Draft. His stock rose quickly in the draft when he tested extremely well at the NFL Combine, with a 4.4 40 yard dash, 26 reps of 225 lb (102 kg). on the bench press, and a 36" vertical jump. He won a Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl XXXIV, his rookie year. He played three years in St. Louis, then spent the 2002 season with the Tennessee Titans, before returning to the Rams for two more seasons. He was signed by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2005 offseason and subsequently cut before being signed by the Dallas Cowboys, with whom he spent the 2005 season. He worked out with the New Orleans Saints prior to the 2006 season, but did not make their final roster. He started 16 games at both free safety and strong safety in his career.
