Rewilding is the process of creating permanently wild human cultures beyond domestication.[1] In green anarchism and anarcho-primitivism, humans are said to be "civilized" or "domesticated" by civilization. Supporters of such human rewilding argue that through the process of domestication, human wildness has been altered by force, resulting in a tame humanity suffering dis-ease and PTSD.[2] Rewilding, then, is about overcoming human domestication and returning to non-fear-based behavior and ways of perceiving and interacting with the world that are inherent in innate human wildness. Though often associated with primitive skills and learning knowledge of wild plants and animals, it emphasizes the development of the five senses and of senses unknown to Western Civilization often collectively dubbed "nature awareness" and tracking as tools for primary living, as rewilded living is viewed as a holistic reality rather than just a number of skills and practices or a specific set of knowledge.

[edit] Theory

Rewilding is most associated with green anarchy and anarcho-primitivism or anti-civilization and post-civilization anarchy in general,[3] though there is a large primitive living contingent who come at it from a less militant direction.[4]

Within a modern and scientific social context, rewilding entails both experiential and book knowledge and understanding of the natural forces and laws, and working in accordance with them to produce a community that is free and beneficial to all involved, including all non-human species. Participators of such events and communities directly reap the benefits of their actions and efforts. Instead of seeking to "return" to an earlier state of human existence or go "back to the land", rewilding seeks to take the experiences and time spent here in civilization and combine the lessons that have been earned by no small means from both the past and the present to make a better future for us all in whatever geographical location we find ourselves in. In this way, rewilding is a new and progressive development towards a post-domesticated way of perceiving, interacting, and participating in the co-creation of our universe.
