In German speaking Switzerland, one-hundredth of one Swiss franc is called Rappen. The plural is unchanged, thus also "1 Rappen", "2 Rappen". The word Rappe (plural Rappen) may also refer to a true black horse. In French speaking Switzerland, the coins are called centime and "centimes", in Italian speaking Switzerland, centesimo and "centesimi" respectively. Two-Rappen coins were struck until 1974 and withdrawn from circulation in 1978, one-Rappen coins continued to be struck until 2006 and were demonetised in 2007. [edit] References
