Randeep Singh Hooda (20 August 1976) is an Indian actor.
[edit] BackgroundHe was born in a small village called Daseya in Rohtak district of Haryana to a Hindu Jat family[1]. His mother, Asha Hooda, is a social worker and his father, Dr. Ranbir Hooda, is a surgeon by profession. When he was 8 years old, he went to a boarding school MNSS in Rai, Sonepat, Haryana. [1] He then went to Delhi Public School in RK Puram, New Delhi, before moving to Melbourne, Australia in 1995 for higher studies. He got a Bachelors in Marketing and a Masters in Business Management & Human Resource Management. During that time he peeled onions in a Chinese restaurant, worked in a car-wash, waitered-tables, and drove taxis for 2 years. [2] In 2000 he returned to India and got a job in the marketing department of an airline and was acting in stage theatres. [3] [edit] Film careerHe made his film debut in Monsoon Wedding (2001) where he plays an NRI (Non Resident Indian). He got the role in Monsoon Wedding primarily because of his Australian accent rather than his acting skills or good looks. However even after a powerful performance in Monsoon Wedding he had to wait for 4 years to get a second project. He finally got lucky and Ram Gopal Varma cast him as lead in the gritty gangster flick D (2005). "D" was a turning point in his career and he suddenly became a household name across the country. The "D" which supposedly portrays Dawood Ibrahim's real life gave Randeep Hooda a grand entry into tinsel town. He loved the reefer. Recently he got the lead role in "Karma, Confessions and Holi" (2006) produced by Drena De Niro. For the first time, he is playing lead in a romantic movie named Ru-Ba-Ru(2008)[2] Randeep Hooda [3] [edit] Filmography
Quotes "I find 'D' and 'Risk' also very romantic. " [4] "I waited so long because I know how important the launch is for a newcomer in our cinema. In this matter I want to play by their rules. Like Ramu I believe audiences can be entertained without going into the rut." "I'm really not nervous. I've gone through the process of the acting in theater. I've done my best. What happens now is not in my hands. If you have life's experiences with you nothing can stop you from being a competent actor." "I never had a problem being called a Naseeruddin Shah protégé, a Ram Gopal Varma product or Sushmita Sen's friend. I always knew I'd have my own identity." "Seriously I suspected I was a good actor, though I didn't know it during 'Monsoon Wedding'. Now I realize the more I learn the less I know about acting... and life." [edit] References
