Ranbir Kapoor (Hindi: रणबीर कपूर, born 28 September 1982 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India) is an Indian actor who appears in Bollywood movies. He first appeared in the 2007 film Saawariya for which he won a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award.
[edit] Early lifeMain article: Kapoor family Born to actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, Kapoor is the great grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor and the grandson of actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor. He is the brother of Riddhima Kapoor and his uncles are Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor. Other notable family members include his cousins Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Nikhil Nanda. As a child, Kapoor studied at Bombay Scottish School in Mahim, Mumbai, and went on to pursue method acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York.[1] [edit] CareerBefore starting off his career as an actor, Kapoor worked as an assistant to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, where he was involved in the making of the film Black (2005).[2] Kapoor later made his acting debut in November 2007 with Bhansali's Saawariya opposite newcomer Sonam Kapoor. The film failed to do well at the box office,[3] though his performance was largely appreciated. Kapoor was then seen in Siddharth Anand's romantic comedy Bachna Ae Haseeno alongside Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba and Deepika Padukone. The film, which released on 15 August 2008, performed reasonably well at the box office. His next film Wake Up Sid, released on 2 October 2009, and was a critical and commercial success. Kapoor's fourth release Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, released on 6 November 2009 and proved to be one of the biggest hits of 2009.[4] His latest movie Shimit Amin's Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year which released on 11 December 2009 got good reviews but has failed to do well at the box office. His future projects include Prakash Jha's Rajneeti co-starring Ajay Devgan and Katrina Kaif[5] and Siddharth Anand's next Anjaana Anjaani with Priyanka Chopra. [edit] Personal lifeKapoor currently lives with his parents in Pali Hill in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
