A product of RCD Espanyol's youth ranks, Baena made his debuts for the first team on October 4, 2009, in a game against Villarreal CF, playing the second half as the ten-man side eventually held off the hosts to a 0–0 draw; the vast majority of the season was spent, however, with the B team.
