Dr. Prof. Qamar-Uz-Zaman Chaudhry is a Pakistani meteorologist and research scientist in the field of meteorology. He is the current Chairman of Pakistan Meteorological Department and Vice President of World Meteorological Organisation[1]. He is a researcher in the field of meteorology and weather technology. Chaudhry a well-known scientist in Pakistan who has written articles in the field of meteorology and Plate tectonics earthquakes. He has published more than 500 research papers in the field of meteorology and related sciences.
[edit] EducationBorn in Sargodha, Pakistan, Chaudhry received his early education from Lahore. Later, he attended Government College University where he received his B.Sc in Physics with honors and M.Sc. in Physics from the Quaid-i-Azam University. He received his Ph.D in meteorology from a University of the Philippines Los Baños. [edit] PMD Career and ChairmanAfter serving 38 years in the Pakistan Meteorological Department, he became a director general of the agency in 1996. He is a prominent scientist in Pakistan. His contributions were involved in 2005 Kashmir earthquake, a disastrous earthquake in Pakistan which resulted in hundreds of deaths. He set up Seismology and earthquake warning research centers in the Kashmir region as well as other parts of the country. As a noted international research scientist, Chaudhry has produced numerous articles that are published in national and international science journals. His articles are heavily focused in the field of meteorology, Extreme weather, forecast, hydrological and high impact weather systems technology, agricultural meteorology, global warming, climatic changes and natural disasters. In 1993, he was awarded the SAARC Best Young Scientist Research Award for his contribution to meteorological sciences in Pakistan as well as in South Asia. In 1999, he was awarded the high civilian award Pride of Performance from the President of Pakistan, Justice (r) Muhammad Rafiq Tarar. In 2001, he was awarded an International award American Biographical Institute (ABI). The ABI also included his name in the "Five thousand Personalities in the World" for his outstanding contribution to science in South Asia. In 2009, he was honoured to become Vice President of World Meteorological Organisation after competing with most of the Asians, European Countries including India, Japan etc. [edit] References and Links
