Port de Pollença (in Spanish, Puerto Pollensa) is a small town in north-eastern Mallorca, Spain, situated on the Bay of Pollença. It is located about six kilometres east of the inland town of Pollença and two kilometres southeast of Cala Sant Vicenç.
[edit] GeographyPort de Pollença, the most northerly town in Majorca, is split into several main areas: Pine walk, Boquer, Central, Siller, Pinaret, Llenaire and Gomar. [edit] The Pine walkThe Pine Walk fronts onto a sheltered part of the larger Badia de Pollença. [edit] CentralThe main square Plaça Capllonch is bounded on three sides by restaurants, shops and bars, and the Church of Our Lady of Carmen to the west. There is a regular weekly market when the square is filled with traders selling fruit, fish, clothing and crafts. [edit] SouthernTo the south there is a large, older urbanisation, consisting of three areas: Urban El Pineret, Urban Gommar and Urban Llenaire. This area is mainly flats, smaller hotels and private homes and has slowly developed over the years. The beach in this area is family friendly, with a gentle grade into the sea, water sports and a wide promenade suitable for walking and cycling. [edit] HighwaysA major new bypass has been constructed linking the main road into the townPM-220 Carretera Pollença north to the PM-221 following a scenic route along the Formentor headland. Sections of the southern bypass have been constructed and there is visible evidence of a protected corridor that will eventually link with the Paseo de Alemania at the southern end of the main beach area. [edit] Super ScooperA number of amphibious fire fighting aircraft, typically Canadair CL-215, are based on the edge of the town and can often be seen on exercise around the bay. |
