The Next Polish Presidential Election will probably take place in 2010, when the five-year term of current President Lech Kaczyński ends.

However, this date is just presumed, because if Kaczyński dies, resigns or is removed from office, early elections would be called and until the next President is sworn-in, Sejm Marshal would serve as Acting President.

[edit] Others=

[edit] The left

[edit] Democratic Left Alliance

  • Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz - former Prime Minister (1996-1997), Sejm Marshal (2005), who initially ran in 2005, but withdrew his candidacy before the election. Also presumed as common left-wing candidate
  • Wojciech Olejniczak (Democratic Left Alliance) - Former Party Leader, former Minister of Agriculture and former Vice Sejm Marshal. Currently MEP. Like Borowski and Cimoszewicz, possible common left-wing candidate.

[edit] Social Democracy of Poland

  • Marek Borowski - Former Sejm Marshal (2001-2004), who came fourth in the 2005 election, he could be the candidate of a united left.

[edit] Populist/Agrarians

[edit] Self-Defense

[edit] Polish People's Party=

  • Jarosław Kalinowski (Polish People's Party) - Former Party Leader, Vice PM and Minister of Agruculture under Leszek Miller and candidate in both 2000 and 2005 elections, currently MEP.
  • Waldemar Pawlak (Polish People's Party) - Current Leader, twice served as Prime Minister (1991 and 1993-1995). Was a Presidential candidate in 1995. Current Deputy PM and Minister of Economy in the coalition government with PO.

[edit] Former President's won't run

Former President Aleksander Kwaśniewski served two terms and is barred from running again. Kwaśniewski is still a popular figure and would have significant support if he could run.

Lech Wałęsa, one-term President, who lost re-election in 1995, ran again in 2000, but received little support and didn't run in 2005 and probably won't run again.

Two other former Presidents, Wojciech Jaruzelski (served 1989-1990) and Ryszard Kaczorowski (served 1989-1990 in exile) are also technically allowed to run, but this is highly unlikely (Jaruzelski would be 87 years in 2010 and Kaczorowski 91).

[edit] Age upon entering on office

  • Lech Kaczyński - would be 61-year old in 2010
  • Donald Tusk - would be 53

  • Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz - 60
  • Wojciech Olejniczak - 36
