Pierre Barrieu (born February 7, 1972 in Thionville, France) is the current fitness coach for the United States Men's National Soccer Team. With a wealth of experience at all levels of the sport, Pierre Barrieu has established himself as one of the premier strength and conditioning coaches for soccer in the United States. He rejoined the United States Men's National Team staff in early 2008 after serving as the fitness coach from 2002-2006. He has also previously worked with the Under-23 and Under-20 Men’s National Teams. Holding a Second Grade Federal Coaching Certificate, and a National Sporting Educator Certificate for football in France, he is a Certified Strength a Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association as well as a certified club coach by both USA Weightlifting and USA Track & Field. While with U.S. Soccer, his credits includes participation in two FIFA World Cups, three CONCACAF Gold Cups (including two titles in 2002 and 2005) and the 2003 and 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup. In particular, the fitness of the USA team was widely believed to have been an important factor during the historic run to the quarterfinals in Korea. Barrieu also works as a National Coaching School instructor for the U.S. Soccer Federation, with a primary focus on the ‘A’ license. He is the author of the fitness curriculum for the U.S. Soccer coaching school (USSF National A, B and C Licenses), and developed the curriculum for the first-ever National Coaching License for Soccer Fitness in the United States, teaching the first course in January 2006 at the Home Depot Center.
