Phytophthora medicaginis is a plant pathogen that causes root rot in alfalfa (Medicago sativa) and chickpeas (Cicer arietinum). It is present in nearly all parts of the world where alfafa is grown. Plants are most susceptible to the pathogen when seedlings become flooded but it can also cause disease in mature plants. [1]
