Permira is an international private equity firm which has its largest office in London, and which is currently headed by Damon Buffini. Permira is the plural neutral form of the Latin adjective permirus[1], glossed by the firm as "very surprising, very different" [2].

The principal Permira entity is a United Kingdom limited liability partnership, Permira Advisers LLP. There are parallel entities in several European countries and in the United States.[3].

Permira acts as adviser to the nineteen Permira Funds, which in total are worth approximately 20 billion euros. These funds have invested in over 190 transactions in 15 different countries, and date as far back as 1985[4]. Permira's holdings have included Jet Aviation, a Swiss-based business aviation company purchased in 2005,[5] which was in turn sold in August 2008 to General Dynamics (NYSE:GD).[6]
