Long, magenta peduncles on an American pokeweed, each supporting many small pedicels.

In botany, a peduncle is a stem supporting an inflorescence, or after fecundation, a fruit.

The peduncle is a stem, usually green and without leaves, though sometimes colored or supporting small leaves. The peduncle may be ramified, in which case the ramifications are called pedicels.

Cherry peduncles may have some curative properties. They can form antibodies used in photosynthesis, in order to prevent wilting during harsh conditions.[citation needed] The pedunculate oak owns its name to the fact that its fruits (the acorns) are borne on a long peduncle.
