John Paul Connolly (b. June 22, 1945) is a former educator and Canadian politician. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 1982 provincial election and represented the electoral district of 6th Queens from 1982 to 1996, followed by Charlottetown-Rochford Square from 1996 to 2000. He was a member of the Liberal Party. The son of Stephen Peter Connolly and Catherine McNally, Connolly was educated at Saint Dunstan's University and the University of Prince Edward Island. He was involved in adult education at Holland College. In 1972, he married Etta Blanche MacLean. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1979. Connolly served in the province's Executive Council as Minister of Education, Minister Responsible for Native Affairs and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women and later as Minister of Higher Education. From 1993 to 1994, Connolly served on the Prince Edward Island Electoral Boundaries Commission.[1] He was leader of the opposition in the assembly from 1999 to 2000. After leaving politics, Connolly was named to the National Parole Board of Canada. [edit] References
