Whitesell started his industry work at Intertalent and later worked at United Talent Agency as an agent. He began working for CAA (Creative Artists Agency) in 1995. In 2001, he became the 10th partner at Endeavor.^[1]

Whitesell married television personality Lauren Sánchez in 2005. He has 4 children: Schuyler, born in 1989, a son Nikko, a son, Evan, born in 2006 and a girl, Ella, born in 2008.^[3]
