Website Pacha

Pacha is a clubbing franchise with headquarters in Ibiza. The first Pacha club was opened in Sitges outside Barcelona in 1967. The Ibiza club, however, is the most well-known and prestigious venue today and is one of two of the island's top clubs located in Ibiza Town, the other being El Divino which is on the marina just a couple of blocks away. Pacha Ibiza was voted no. 4 in a poll of most popular nightclubs in 2006 conducted by DJ Magazine[1]

The club, which opened in 1973, has undergone several rebuildings and enlargements and is one of the (if not the) island's most famous and modern nightclub. Its location is near the harbour in Ibiza Town. Pacha used to be the only major Ibiza nightclub which doesn't close its doors during the winter season however it will be during the 2009-10 winter season. The club's capacity is 3,500 guests. Sarah Main is the current resident DJ. However, the Ibizan club is best known for nights such as "Pure Pacha" hosted by high profile DJ's such as Steve Angello, Fedde Le Grande and Dj Scofield and Axwell, every night during the summer months. The club was also featured in the 2004 movie It's All Gone Pete Tong. Musically, '‘Pacha’' is best known for house music but has five different rooms incorporating other musical styles. DJ Steve Lawler comments about Pacha in an interview with Ministry of Sound in 2006 that, "Pacha’s a great club with an amazing sound system and by far the best dancers / performers in the world"[2]. Every September the club is host to the Ibiza Dj Awards. In 2007, musician James Blunt released a song called "1973" about the club, which was subsequently remixed by Pete Tong and played during his own sets in the club.

As of 2008 Pete Tong has severed ties with Pacha in favour of promoting his own night, Wonderland, at Eden nightclub in San Antonio[3].

[edit] Pacha New York

Pacha New York is the first North American branch of the club and the newest member of the franchise. Located on the West side of Manhattan the 30,000 square-foot venue is made up of four floors. With the Hudson River to the west and New York's Hell's Kitchen District to the East, Pacha New York's factory facade is often misleading to the customized decor and character aesthetic on the inside. The lower level "basement" is mostly used for its large coat check facility and its merchandise store. However when the main room gets overcrowded many patrons escape to the basement room to listen to local djs. On the First level is Pacha's main room. The bare wide-open room makes way for a traditional New York club dance floor, along with a full bar and grand staircase. The powerful sound system is a German-Imported speaker system, and the intelligent, LED and conventional lightning brings the room to life. The club also has a fully integrated video system. The second floor is the mezzanine, which overlooks the main floor and accommodates the club's VIPs. Mostly made up of luxurious couches, and tables, the mezzanine is usually celebrities' choice for table service. The third floor is made up of the Funky Room, named after Pacha Ibiza's legendary pre-club lounge space. Lastly the fourth floor is Pachita or "little pacha" tucked up in the attic. The elegant room has a capacity of 400 and is suited for dancing, lounging, or seated presentations, and usually has hip-hop playing. The couches can be changed to custom configurations, while an independent sound system and full bar allow for Pachita to host its own parties separated from the main floor[4].

[edit] Pacha Magazine

There is also a Pacha Magazine releasing four issues a year. It is also available to subscribers as PDF download.

As with the Ibiza editions of Mixmag and M8 Pacha magazine can be picked up for free on the island, explicitly it can be picked up at the bars on the Sunset Strip.
