Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC), is a 808-bed hospital[1] in downtown Orlando, Florida, which specializes in trauma, critical care, emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics and neurosciences. One of the state's six major teaching hospitals and Orlando Health's flagship medical center, ORMC offers graduate medical education in seven specialties. ORMC is home to Central Florida's only Level One Trauma Center and provides comprehensive care to the most critically ill or injured patients throughout the Central Florida community. In 2008, Orlando Regional Healthcare, ORMC's parent company, was renamed Orlando Health. Also, that same year, it was announced that ORMC would become a heart transplant center, and Dr. Javier LaFuente was hired to head the cardiac transplant program. In 2009, it was announced that Lucerne Hospital, a smaller independent hospital within the Orlando Health system, would become the Lucerne Pavillion, a part of ORMC. Orlando Health is a system which includes several major hospitals in Orlando, including the award-winning Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Families, Winnie Palmer hospital for Women and Babies, South Seminole Hospital, Dr. Phillips Hospital, and more.
